So it’s finally happened, he popped the question and you said “YES!”

Now you’ve got the ring, told your family and made it Facebook official so everyone can see the good news. Now it’s time for you two love birds to take all those gorgeous, heartwarming, romantic engagement photos for you to treasure and share with the world. If you're like most couples, you’ve never done engagement photos before so you're left with a bunch of questions. Like: What do you wear? How do you prepare? What shouldn’t you wear? It’s defiantly an investment to hire a professional photographer, and you want to make sure you’re doing your part to create photos you’re proud of. To help you on your journey to the perfect swoon-worthy engagement pictures we've made a list of everything you’ll need to know before leaving the home for your photoshoot, and how to make sure everything is picture-perfect.

DRESS FOR THE OCCASION

One of the most common mistakes new couples make for their engagement pictures is treating the session just like any old photoshoot. This is quite possibly the most important step you’ll take in your lives. Take the opportunity to dress the part and look your best. Ladies, you can never go wrong with a beautiful flowy maxi dress or skirt with a simple blouse. You want to keep it flattering but classy. If you need to do some shopping there are some great selections at www.lulus.com and www.morninglavender.com. A pair of nice flats or killer heels will work perfectly for shoes, just be sure to bring a change of walking shoes in case we need to trek through some obstacles and terrain to get the perfect shot. For the guys, your going to want to keep it clean. Some nice slacks with a button-up or even a tailored suit with accents to match your fiancé. If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas for the perfect ensemble, look at some of our other engagement sessions, or go to www.StyleMePretty.com and browse around there for a while!

DON’T SHOW UP LATE AND UNPREPARED

It happens to the best of us. We schedule an appointment for weeks in advance, and then move it to the back of our minds, thinking that we’ll remember everything we need. Your engagement photos are a huge deal, they give you the opportunity to meet with your photographer and practice working with them for the big day on top of getting some professional photos taken that you can use for all sorts of occasions. The absolute worst thing you can do is show up unprepared. Make sure to take the time to check that your outfits are clean and pressed, and of course that your hair and makeup both look on point. Don't forget those polished dress shoes too. The camera catches everything, especially if your shoes are scuffed and beaten. On the day of your shoot try to arrive 10-15 minutes earlier than your scheduled time. Your photographer is taking the time to schedule this appointment and celebrate this joyous occasion for you both and sometimes has more appointments right after yours: be courteous of their time and yours.

TREAT YOURSELF

Engagement photos are the perfect excuse to go pamper yourself and practice for your big day! A popular choice for many brides is to have their hair & makeup trial with their makeup artist on the same day as their engagement photos. This not only gives you the chance to decide how you want to look on your wedding day but also come into your engagement session feeling beautiful and confident. Also highly recommended is getting a facial close to your engagement session to give your skin that fresh bridal glow. Guys are going to want to make sure to trim any facial hair to look nice and clean. For both the future bride and groom the best way to ensures that there are no split ends caught in your photos be sure to get a hair trim close to the day of your session. This allows for your hair to be in its best shape

CONSIDER RENTING OUTFITS

There are so many companies nowadays that allow you to rent stunning outfits for a fraction of the cost! If you’re having a hard time finding that perfect outfit that makes you feel your best and is in your price range, consider looking into websites such as RenttheRunway.com. They allow you to rent just about any type of dress for close to nothing. Guys can even rent nice suits from places like Men’s Wearhouse for a low price as well.

Getting engaged is one of the most special times of your life. These pictures are a perfect way to capture the love and excitement of these moments. Using the tips above will only help to enhance your shoot and create lasting images that you will cherish for life. Above all else, enjoy these magical times with your fiancé and use this opportunity to take a break from the wedding planning and have fun with your engagement pictures!
